How to Override Data via CSV
If you’re importing data for the first time, or need to upload data without overriding existing data, please see our Uploading via CSV Help Guide instead.
Using the CSV override feature you can bulk override large amounts of data, including inventory items, staff, customers and more.
Overriding Item Data with a CSV File
Log into your account from any web browser (Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.), followed by expanding the Inventory tab, followed by tapping on INVENTORY LIST to bring you to the page shown in the image below.
We recommend that you begin by exporting your items from Tillpoint so that you have an up-to-date CSV file which you can then easily edit in a program like Excel.
Please read the rest of this guide before making any changes to your CSV file.
Tap on the Import CSV button, as highlighted in the image below.
Tap on Override Existing Items.
The system needs a way to identify your existing items so it can overwrite and update information without adding the data as new items.
You can use an item’s Code (Item Number), SKU, or Barcode (UPC) as unique identifiers, all of which can be set when adding an item or editing its information.
Please note: this identifier must not change or the system won’t overwrite the information for that item, it will instead add a new item.
The image below is the CSV file opened in a plain text editor, like TextEdit on Mac or Notepad on Windows. The highlighted column is the Code column - you may change information in other columns, but not the identifier you’re using (in this case the numbers in the Code column).
As mentioned, this guide will use the Code as the unique identifier, so to continue tap on the Code option.
Codes are displayed when opening the Inventory module next to each of the items, as highlighted below. You can edit these codes in a product’s Item Information.
To upload your file you can tap on the Choose File button, or simply drag-and-drop your CSV file to that location on the page.
The CSV will load and you’ll see a matrix that outlines the data columns with information that you may want to change.
Additionally you can add further information columns by tapping on the blue plus icon, as shown below.
After making changes to your items, tap on the Import button to complete the process.
